Grasmere Gallop 1st/2nd June 2024

Closing date 

Entries close at midnight on Sunday 26th May. Unfortunately once entries close we will be unable to accept any further transfers.

Cancellations

We regret that having entered the race we will not be able to provide any deferral or refund, either in full or in part, whatever the circumstances of the entrant’s non-attendance after 2 months pre event date. Competitors are able to transfer their entry to a different distance or transfer their entry to another competitor up until the online closing date.

Event registration

Registration for all events will be open on Friday 31st May from 15:00-20:00 and on Saturday 1st from 7.00am to 10.45am. Marathon registration will open from 06:00 – 07:00 on Sunday 2nd June. Marathon runners please bring your full Mandatory Kit as this will be checked at Registration.

Please allow plenty of time to register before the race.  At Registration you will collect your race number which incorporates your timing chip, please pin to the front of your running top/shorts.  Please take the time to write your emergency contact details and any relevant medical information on the reverse of your race number.  Pens and safety pins will be provided at Registration which is situated in the Event Marquee.

Registration for Under 18s

Under 18s are required to have a parent or guardian sign for their race number and the Parental Disclaimer form at Registration; Parents should also escort them to the start line.  Parents/guardians remain responsible for their children throughout the event.

Starting

All Saturday events will start at 11:30am.

Please be in front of the main marquee at 11:00am for the Pre Race Brief and Warm Up, before being walked to the start line by Mr Red (easy to spot being a giant red squirrel).

The Gallop Marathon will start at 07:30am on Sunday 2nd. More information on the Marathon page.

On Saturday 1st, please don’t make your own way to the start line. We have police support to stop traffic on the road at the start of the event; it is a police requirement that all competitors are assembled beforehand.

Parking

We are able to offer limited free car parking, on the Grasmere Sports Field site for competitors (LA22 9SJ).  Please arrive in good time to park. There is also a National Park pay & display car park next to the sports field. Please try to avoid parking in Grasmere village where there are limited spaces. We would encourage you to car share wherever possible to limit the effect on the site and environment.

Camping

Camping is available @ £18 per adult for 2 nights (Fri 31st May/Sat 1st Jun 24). More information and online booking (required) can be found HERE

Showers

Portable shower units will be onsite with Weekend Shower Passes available @ £10. Further information to follow.

Public transport

Grasmere is well served by buses; the Stagecoach 555 and 599 are the most regular services.  The nearest bus stop to the Sports Field registration area is located at Stock Lane (for the 555), immediately adjacent to the site, or Dove Cottage (for the 599).  You can find more details here

Baggage

We aren’t able to offer any dedicated baggage storing facilities.  Those of you who park on the Sports Field site may be best advised to leave any baggage in your car. Any items left in the registration tent are done so at your own risk; please do not leave any valuables. Key Storage is available at Registration.

Toilets

Toilet facilities are available with portable toilets onsite. There is a disabled toilet located in the Sports Pavillion. There is also a toilet block (fees apply) situated at the National Park car park adjacent to the Sports Field.

Race photography

Photos will be taken during the event and extensive race pictures will be available to view, tag, share and download for free from the event Facebook page.

Timing and results

The timing system is provided by TimingUpNorthLtd.  Your race number is also your timing chip, please don’t lose it.

Provisional results will be posted on the website as soon as possible on Monday 3rd June 2024.

First Aid

First Aid support will be provided by First Aid Associates, available on the course and at the finish.

Catering

There are two Drinks stations located on the 5.7km and 10km Saturday race routes, three Drinks Stations on the 17km Saturday race route and two Drinks Stations and a Checkpoint on the Sunday race route, plus at the finish area.  Hot drinks, and hot & cold snacks will be available for purchase on the Sports Field, including our bar.

Shopping

Our Grasmere Gallop headtubes will be available to buy from Registration @ £10 each, while stocks last. New for 2024, Grasmere Gallop t shirts (cotton or technical, available in Male or Female fit) will be available to pre order during the online entry process and collected at Registration.

OMM retail will be onsite with their fabulous kit shop.

Pete Bland Sports will be onsite with their infamous pop up shop.

Mountain Fuel will be onsite with their brilliant range of Sports Nutrition products to purchase and sample. Use code ‘pureoutdoors’ to receive 15% discount from online purchases.

Sports Massage

The team from Sports Recovery Kendal will be onsite offering pre and post event physiotherapy and sports massage @ £20 per 20 minutes.

Face Painting

Fancy Fox Face Painting will be onsite from 10:00 – 14:00, £4.50 per face.

Teddy Dash

For our younger visitors, registration for the Teddy Dash will take place at 07:00 – 11:30. Entry costs £1, the correct change would be appreciated. All ‘Dashers’ will receive a medal and lollipop.

Dogs

Due to the large numbers of people taking part, and the restricted space on many sections of the route, we regret that dogs are not permitted on the route.

Dogs are welcome on the main event field, but should be kept under close control, and will not be allowed into the marquees.

Final check list – don’t forget:

  • Ensure that your race number is securely attached to the front of your running vest / top and that it is clearly visible.
  • Bring with you a change of dry, warm clothing, and suncream (you never know!)
